Suburban Auto Group is a real car dealer in Sandy, Oregon. They have become known for their “Trunk Monkey” television spots. The ads are unique to say the least, and remarkable for the fact that they NEVER talk about the cars they sell, or even where they are located. Nor do the ads differentiate Suburban Auto Group as a dealer based on the usual distinctives of their (presumably) helpful sales people or friendly and efficient service.
This is a daring campaign that strictly builds awareness for the dealer through a highly intrusive message. And by intrusive, I don’t mean offensive. Rather, they invade your space and mess with your normal perception of car dealership advertisements. Unorthodox, absolutely. Memorable, you bet. And the farcical messages are a refreshing alternative to the “sex-sells” model or the fast talking sales guy out on the lot walking past cars with prices painted on the windshield, that seem to pervade dealership advertising.
